The most popular Discovery Bay to Mui Wo trail - often called the Trappist trail, is being blocked/disrupted by HK Resort to make way for one of its long rumoured real estate development project.
While we're frighting hard for an alternate trail from DB to Mui Wo with HK Resort, we also met with the closing (by AFCD) of another trail (the Lo Fu Tau Trail) from DB to Mui Wo.
This trail starts from the top of the highest peak in Discovery Bay - Lo Fu Tau or ' Tiger Head' - slopping downhill for about 3.5km to A Po Long where it merges with the footpath to Pa Ngan Heung of Mui Wo (the Pa Ngan Heung footpath was renamed the Olympic trail a few years ago).
If you ride from the Lo Fu Tau end of Discovery Bay, this is a very good 7km downhill trail to Mui Wo. In March 2011, this trail was formally named the Lo Fu Tau Country trail by the AFCD, and immediately it was closed to cycling.
I wrote to AFCD to appeal for the formally opening if this trail to cycling, only to receive their red-tapish reply - "No" !
I started a petition campaign for the opening of this trail and have placed a petition letter with the Friendly Bicycle Shop in Mui Wo. If you happen to drop by and support this campaign, please sign this letter. The owner of Friendly Bicycle is Jacky Chan. He speaks good english and very nice and friendly.
