Anyone recommend a good tyre?

8 years 1 month ago #1467 by bbowie_hk
I have come off my bike twice in the last 2 months...both cornering and the front wheel has just lost grip. Both times in the rain and on tarmac with some loose gravel.

I now have some rather nasty scars on my elbows and as I dont want to add any more can someone please suggest a tyre that provides reasonable grip off road and also on tarmac?

I am currently using Bontrager

There's not much you can do on wet, gravel covered tarmac besides just ride carefully.

If you want a grippy offroad tyre, the Minion DHF is a good choice. It's slow for the road though.

If you're worried about falling, get some pads.

most of us ride maxxis high roller super tacky's during the wet season...the minions work well too, what ever you get, just make sure it's the soft compound, they are slower rolling and wear out very quickly, but will save your skin...specially if you ride wet rocks and roots!

In the Wet condition in HK, I can advice you to use the SR type from Maxxis tires Slow Rebound compound which is really work in HK. There are available at some shop in HK from size 2.35" - 2.5".

On the other hand, if you really enjoy the fully MUDDY riding. The swapthing of wetscream are the only source that fit you.

I run Small Block 8 1.95" front & rear on my hardtail. They seem to clog up with mud when the trail is wet after rain.

If the trail is dry, then they're clean.

Oops. I never try Small Block on mud condition. Then use Maxxis Minion.

Have you tried Nevegal? How does it compare with Minion?

Navagal dual ply too heavy & hard to get on. Single ply Navagal too easy to get pinch flat.
Used to get sponsor from Kenda. I can get those for free. Normal riding Maxxis. But race....no choice. Forced to use Kenda.
Maxxis Minion 60a fast rolling & just perfect grip. Runs 24-28psi.
